Just Simply Outsourcing Worldwide Gives Back: One Love, One Heart

As the popular Bob Marley song goes:
Hear the children cryin’ (One Love!); (One Heart!),
Sayin’: let’s get together and feel all right.

December 19, 2012—The team of Just Simply Outsourcing Worldwide, with one love and one heart, gets together and celebrates the Christmas cheer by giving back to the community instead of staging a fancy party. Who would have known that just several kilometres away from the JSOW officeexists a bleak sitio thriving along mangrove-fringed shores of the famed Times Beach of Davao City? Around one o’clock in the afternoon, an eclectic group of talents from all walks of life enjoys a bus ride that took them just some minutes away into the narrow dirt roads of Kalubihan, Ecoland. Mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety dawned on some of the passengers as the need to stop the bus and walk a block away to the venue was announced. It was after all, a strange street flocked with curious eyes following their every move. Tension ebbed as the group finally arrived at the place where the children, some too young and had to be carried by their mothers, await.

Young round eyes alight with merriment welcomed the arrival of Santa Zeus and the rest of his gang with bags and boxes of gifts and goodies. The entertainment began with jolly carols accompanied by acoustic guitar duo while the kids enjoy their lollies, food, and drinks. Song after song, everyone had a blastwith each minute of actively participating in making the lives of these kids blissful even for a couple hours or so. In return, the children of Catonggan poured their heart out into songs and cheers of gratitude and happiness. And to the kids’ delight, the time for gift-giving came…

With the help of Melanie and the assisting group assembled by the kind Pastor, children were gathered into lines. It is not uncommon for events such as this to turn into an unruly mob. As the activity wore on, things were getting out of hand. The team had a hard time making children and parents follow instructions. Kids were coming back, again and again for more gifts. But amidst the commotion, it was then that the JSOW group realized how hungry these children were… for gifts—material things that takes them momentarily away from the hard life that they struggle through each and every day. The hours spent with them, was “the lighter side of their life” as Melanie said.

“Today is not about us at all.” Serena told the team as they left. The short period of time spent together, marked a significant day in the lives of all the people involved. As the day ended, everyone held on their gifts… the children with their new toys, clothes, shoes and school stuff; and the JSOW team with a renewed heart and spirit.

Sayin’, “Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right.”
